English Poker Open 2010 - Final Table

17 September 2010

English Poker Open 2010 Final TableAt 3pm on Tuesday 14th September, 9 players had battled through a field of 194 international poker players to take their place at the final Table of the 2010 RakeTheRake sponsored English Poker Open.

All 9 players took their seats and the 1st hand was dealt. All was calm as the players arrived, sat down and started to focus. This proved to be the “calm before the storm”.

20 minutes after the 1st card was dealt, we had lost our 1st player and by the end of the hour another 3 had followed him off the table.

The 9th place finisher was Stephen Chimelski who went out in true dramatic poker style. All-in pre-flop with pocket aces he got a call from Fabian Quoss, the most aggressive player at the time, with pocket 10s. Stephen was in the lead all the way until one of the two 10s remaining in the deck, hit the river. Sending Stephen to the rail with a payout of £13,600.

Next to go in 8th was Salman Behbehani. With the short stack, he pushed in late position with queen-3 and was called by a rag Ace. No queen or 3 meant Salman was walking away with £17,000.

English Poker Open 2010 Final Table7th place finisher was the 1st of the trio of Englishmen, Mark Norman. Mark managed to find ace-king to push with, only to walk into Andrew Brennan with pocket queens. Mark spiked an ace on the flop but Andrew also spiked a queen, with a 10 on there too. With only running cards to save him, or a jack, Mark watched as two rags came on the turn and river. Hopefully the £23,750 for 7th place helped Mark get over his Ace-king v queen-queen knockout.

The last of our 1st hour casualties was, Brent Lehring. Having the short stack he looked down to find pocket 4s and pushed all his chips across the line, only to find a call from Mathew Frankland who was holding pocket Kings. The board didn't help Brent and he walked away with £30.550.

After that whirlwind hour things calmed down and it was some time before we lost our next player.

Andrew Brennan was the second of the Englishmen to hit the rail in 5th place. After re-raising Quoss's button raise, he insta called Quoss's insta all in. Andrew flipped pocket 9s and Fabian turned over ace-king, with an ace coming on the flop and nothing to help Andrew on the turn and river, he walked away smiling and headed back up north £40,750 richer.

Felipe Ramos quickly followed Andrew from the table. Felipe pushed in pre-flop with ace-6 only to be called by Sabastiaan Crul who had pocket 7s. A seven on the flop all but ended Felipe's tournament and with the turn and river being no help, he bid the final 3 players farewell and went to pick up the 4th place prize of £54,300.

Our 3rd place finisher was the last in the trio of Englishmen. Mathew Frankland had found himself out of position against the aggressive Fabian Quoss. He slowly lost the chip lead but the final hand he played was against the least aggressive player of the 3. On a jack high flop all of the chips ended in the middle of the table. Mathew showed Jack-8 and Sabastiaan showed King-Jack. With 2 blanks on the following streets, Mathew collected £77,400 for his 3 days of hard work at the tables.

Sabastiaan Crul and Fabian QuossIt all comes down to the final hand, after an hour or two of play the players managed to get all the chips in pre-flop, here's what happened:

  • Sabastiaan shows Ac 5c
  • Fabian shows As Qd
  • The flop - Ad Kh 8h
  • The turn - 3d
  • The river - 6d

And it was all over! Fabian Quoss was the new English Poker Open 2010 Champion and he took home the coveted George trophy and a cool £220,650.

Our 2nd place finisher Sabastiaan Crul receives £129,000 for all his hard work.

Thanks to everyone involved for making this event a success, especially all the players who came from all over the world to be with us in London.
